Why have I used Lion and Lioness in the quotation above we hear many times in our lives? Am I trying to say that men are Lions and women are Lionesses? Have you ever heard of the phrase “My Lion Son” or in Urdu “Mera Sher Beta”? This phrase is extravagantly used in my part of the world.
In our childhood we were told so much about a Lion and so little about a Lioness. Elders, books, media, cartoons, all raved about Lion. Our childhood impression of a Lion was that it is a symbol of strength and courage and has been celebrated throughout history for these characteristics. Lion is also common symbols for royalty and grandeur, hence the phrase ‘king of the jungle’. What do you remember about Lioness from your childhood? Anything? I don’t remember anything. And I am sure same is the case with you.
Let’s place men in the paws of Lions and women in the paws of Lionesses. Now for centuries we are listening the stories of these Great men (Lions) even the first theory ever made on leadership was ‘Great Man theory’. History is full of Hercules-es and Hectors. When we read history I feel as if women never existed in the past, God only created women few years ago. We are the latest creation of God. Congratulations girls! Well, women existed, women were made the same day men were made, women played there part in the history quite profoundly. Some of them even made it to the history books but only half a paragraph or so was written about them. One hypothesis could be that women achieved but did not boost about it. Women in history have been playing there part beautifully but because they are not gender obsessed they didn’t bother to make themselves written in history. Now we feel as if they should have bothered so that men couldn’t say that women are nothing but a “The Second Sex”.
Nonetheless, let’s come back to the Lions and Lionesses. What is the truth? Is Lion really brave, courageous, royal or KING? Before we divulge the truth about our most loved animal Lion let me shed light on Lioness – long awaited and well deserved limelight. Take a deep breath and let the spirit of the Lioness fill you. Perfect timing- she will teach you when to lie low and blend with the surroundings and when to leap out and go after what you desire. Intuitive- her intuitive side will teach you to develop the skill of sensing what is around you and knowing exactly when to make your move. The Lioness is also very strong physically, fast and agile. And once home, let her teach you to relax completely, enjoying the company of others, nuzzling and purring as you build a community of safety and abundance. If you are a women reading this do you realize how blessed you are to be the Lioness!
Lion on the other side is lazy and dependent on Lioness for food. Lion kills the cubs so he can mate with Lioness. Lion tend to step in and take any spoils of victory. Agreed men are very well known as Lions but the attributes our ancestors associated with Lions are false.
If you are a male reader I have probably pissed you off or maybe you have ditched my article after reading the first paragraph. If not and you are still reading while grinding your teeth let me confess, this article isn’t about any gender war. My intention was not to humiliate the male gender. There have been many wonderful and inspiring male personalities in our history. The intention was to make you realize that Yes! It feels bad when somebody, somewhere talks like this about your gender. When somebody generalizes or stereotypes your gender and make songs on you like:
I’m a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it’s fantastic!
You can brush my hair; undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
I’m a blond bimbo girl, in a fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I’m your dolly
You’re my doll, rock’n’roll, feel the glamour in pink,
Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky…
You can touch; you can play, if you say: “I’m always yours”
It feels sickening. This is no war. Neither am I feminist nor male chauvinist. I am a woman who doesn’t want to be told what a woman is. I know what I am. I have immense respect for our fellow gender. Men and women are two halves, incomplete with each other. Let’s understand it, accept it and enjoy it.
On a humorous note, next time when you are about to say “Mera Sher Beta” Think Twice 😉
On the way to my office I saw children wearing uniform, going to their schools. They reminded me of those 150 martyrs. Where my eyes were brimming with tears my heart was giving me strength. We have not lost. The hope is alive. We are Muslims believing death will come on its appointed time and no one can take it otherwise.
P. S. The battle is still ON and your Fail is predestine. .
And What we expect of them is to Excel individually and as a Team, be it Personally (marriage) or be it it Professionally (workplace) REFLECT!
In life you meet people, some you forget, some stay with you and some transcend to another world with you, to a place of no boundaries and no names. You know that person belongs to you. The two souls connect like two opposite magnetic poles. You experience natural attraction between the two of you. The heart has made its choice ignoring the warnings your brain has been giving you all the while. It’s like getting up in the morning with wings. You can fly and fly to chase your passions leaving everything behind. There is no security, no commitment, no agreement, no guarantee, just the connect you strongly feel in your heart. The experience you go through cannot be put into words it can only be felt. It’s the time when you care less about the obvious. Soul floats into the world of abstract and wordlessness, dancing on the tunes of happiness and singing the songs of freedom. This is the world of lovers, the world where passion feels at home. The journey to this world is absolutely suicidal not everyone can survive all the way through. Many times on the way you may fall back to the obvious, go blank, gets lost or die. This is the journey, Sufi took for divinity that shapes our ends, Ranjha took for Heer, Jack took for Rose, solider up front in a war took for his country and mother took for her child. The ultimate peace, the nirvana is waiting for you at the end. Once you survive all the way through the soul penetrates in the world of unconscious ease. It’s the burning passion in you that keeps you alive. Your heartbeat doesn’t certify you are alive, your passion does. I am Passion Driven, are you?
